Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Can windows be cleaned in the winter?
A. Yes! I can clean interior & exterior windows all year round. Preferably when the sun is shining & the temperature is optimal (above 5 degrees). I switch to a winter solution with a dash of anti-freeze. Mostly store-fronts take advantage of the year-round cleaning on a schedule that I can tackle during the day or after business hours. The winter months are when the Water-Fed-Pole really comes in handy.
Q. How do you get the windows so clean?
A. I would like to tell you that it is magic, but it is not. A great deal of attention, patience, practice & high-quality tools all contribute to the results you see. I take great pride in getting your windows spotless. My carbon fiber, Water-Fed-Pole & 2-stage, de-ionized, pure water delivery system allows the glass to become "HYDROPHILIC". This mineral-free water leaves no spots when dry.
HYDROPHILIC: (Water-loving). When water cascades down the glass in sheets. (Best results.)
HYDROPHOBIC: (Water hating). Water breaks up on the glass, leaving beads of water that result in spots.
*Most vehicles' front/rear windshields are hydrophobic, this is why you see spots after it rains.
REMOVAL of: PRE/POST CONSTRUCTION, SILICON, PAINT OVERSPRAY, STICKERS/RESIDUE, HARD WATER, SALT/POOL WATER, BIRD/BEE POO, HYDROCARBONS/PESTICIDES, TREE SAP, LEACHING (from siding oxidization), POLLEN, SMOKE RESIDUE, FUNGUS, DUST & DEBRIS.
Q. Can you remove oil/hydrocarbons from glass? How about smoke residue from forest fires?
A. With special agents & the correct "scrub" from my arsenal, I can remove LITERALLY ANYTHING off the glass.
Q. Can you restore glass damaged by hard water (calcium/lime buildup) staining?
A. Sometimes referred to as "glass cancer", hard water can pulverize, glass making it look hazy & old! Since glass is porous, dried minerals from water become "stuck" in the microscopic holes, leaving behind their unsightly residue. I have several methods to tackle this terrible eye sore.
However, this depends on the extent of Mother Natures' treacherous touch & how long the windows have last been cleaned, which will dictate if the windows can be restored. Unfortunately, once the minerals have been chemically bonded to the glass particles, it is near impossible to remove the staining & will require special glass restoration &/or new window installation.
I have solutions that can restore the window by +90%.
Q. Window Cleaning vs. Window Restoration
A. Window Cleaning is a "maintenance" service usually performed 1 - 2X per year, depending on location, environment, personal preference, etc. After the initial cleaning, the windows will remain cleaner.....longer.
Window Restoration is termed an "operation", as it requires much more "elbow grease" & time dedicated to restoring the glass to its original vigor. Unfortunately, some hard water stains can not be removed. If that is the case, the window will need to be replaced. Replacing a window, mirror, or piece of glass can be extremely expensive, so if you see a potential problem with hard water, act quickly!
As said earlier, I have solutions that can restore the window by +90%.
Q. Can you clean stucco-stained windows?
A. There are 2 types of stucco: cement-based & acrylic based. Cement stucco has calcium (lime) & is prone to staining glass over time, (chemically bonded). Acrylic is better but can oxidize from either soft-washing with bleach or sun UV damage. Calcium will chemically bond to the glass if not treated accordingly, oxidation will not. The best solution is regular cleaning intervals.
Q. What do you use in your solution?
A. For both exterior & interior I use a biodegradable, environmentally safe, water-wetting agent, allowing the squeegee to "glide' smoothly over the glass. This combination is best for eliminating dirt & grime. Since there is now no dirt to cling onto, the windows stay cleaner, longer.
Q. Do I really need the inside of my windows cleaned?
A. Typically, yes. Cleaning both interior & exterior provides the best effect for perfect-looking, professionally cleaned windows. Usually most of the dirt is on the outside, but interior windows can get quite soiled (especially in the kitchen). I am very meticulous in ensuring "white glove detail" inside your home.
Q. Can I get my windows cleaned on a regular basis?
A. Yes. I offer flexible, scheduled maintenance programs customized to meet your needs. Once per year, 2–3X per year, bi-weekly, etc. Trades/bartering or offers always accepted by local businesses.
Q. Will the windows become dirty, right after it rains?
A. Dirt particulates make your windows dirty, not rain. Dust from construction, landscapers, tree pollen, vehicle brakes/exhaust, etc. will settle on the windows over time. When it rains, the droplets move that dirt around the windows & once the rain dries, the dirt particulates remain on the glass, leaving spots. This residue is now very visible since it's been spread all over the window! Clean windows remain clean because once the rain drops dry, there is no dirt/dust particles for the drops to adhere to, rendering your windows spotless!
Q. What about Rain Guarantee?
A. Raindrops will usually dry CLEAR on CLEAN glass. No more worrying about rain ruining your clean windows! I will always touch up spots caused by rain, acknowledged within 48 hours, GUARANTEED!!
Q. Is it worth it to pressure wash my home/driveway /sidewalks?
A. A good first appearance on a home not only improves the looks but can add as much as 5 to 10 percent to the value of the home. Over time, dirt & mildew will collect on walls & walkways if not properly maintained. Almost all: siding, stucco, brick, pavers, concrete & most organic stone can be “soft washed” (see next FAQ).
Q. What is “Soft Washing?” (Mostly Moss/*Algae Removal)
A. Soft Washing was originally designed for the purpose of cleaning algae off of roof shingles. I apply the Quaternary Ammonium Compounds (“QAC”), solution to surfaces that are very hard to clean with normal pressure washing or could/would become damaged if high pressure was applied to: windows, roof shingles, screens, wood paneling, etc. The Soft Wash technique eliminates all plant, fungal & bacterial life; cleans out dirt, grime & all other unwanted organic material from the roof, safely returning it to its original color with no risk of damage to roofing materials. This method is DESTRUCTIVE to ALL organics. I will continually wet down all surrounding lawns, plants, shrubs, flowers, etc. to ensure that no damage is done.
*Gloeocapsa Magma (algae) is common on roofs, under soffits, railings & eavestroughs, which leaves "signature" black streaks all over your shingles. I use a strong Sodium Hypochlorite solution with a water-wetting agent to combat this problem. This substance thrives in humidity & hot temperatures causing it to spread rapidly, having a destructive effect on your roof. Algae feed off the moisture that certain types of shingles hold onto (such as clay, porous concretes, etc. Now affected, the shingles begin to lose their ability to reflect UV rays, eventually rotting the shingles. This has been known to affect roofs severely, taking up to 10 years off their lifespan.
